Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington’s Commission on the Status of Women will host a Women’s Market at City Hall on August 26th (Women’s Equality Day) from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. This event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Bloomington Commission on the Status of Women.

“This event highlights the work of women, builds community, and furthers equity,” said Deputy Mayor Mary Catherine Carmichael. “We must continue to remove barriers and strive for equity right here in our own community.  We are fortunate to have a commission devoted to this work and so many smart, talented, and dynamic women making good things happen in Bloomington.”

The market will showcase women-owned businesses, female artisans, and women’s health organizations, with vendor booths positioned throughout City Hall. The Commission on the Status of Women invites local businesses, non-profits, and artists to register for a vendor booth space. Register online at https://bton.in/aMydt and registrations close on Monday, August 7th at 5 p.m.

The Bloomington Commission on the Status of Women was established in 1973, by a committee of local women leaders interested in closing the gender pay gap in Bloomington. These women wanted a commission to be chartered to investigate what barriers, at a local level, stood in the way of attaining gender pay equity, and what opportunities existed to advance towards this goal.
